About Yes/No Tarot

An independent, free tarot reading site built around one idea: a reading should be immediate, private, and honest about what it is.

What this site is

Yes/No Tarot is a small web app that draws from the 22 Major Arcana and gives you a reading you can actually read. There are no accounts to create, no email to hand over, and no paywall between you and an answer. You pick a spread, focus on a question, and the cards come up.

It exists because most free tarot sites make you work for the reading. You land on a page covered in ads, click through three interstitials, hand over an email address, and the interpretation you finally get is two sentences long. This site inverts that: the reading comes first, the writing underneath it is meant to be worth reading, and nothing is gated.

How the readings work

Every reading draws from the same 22 Major Arcana cards. The deck is shuffled using your browser's cryptographic random number generator, which is the same source used for security-sensitive randomness — not a predictable pseudo-random sequence that could repeat across visits.

For yes/no readings, each card carries a fixed verdict: yes, no, or maybe. Those verdicts are not improvised per reading. They follow the traditional reading of each card's upright meaning — The Sun and The Star are affirming cards, The Tower and The Moon are cautionary ones — and they stay consistent so the same card always means the same thing here. You can see the full mapping on the card list page.

Multi-card spreads assign each drawn card to a position, and the interpretation you read is written for that specific card in that specific position. A card means something different as your past than it does as your likely direction, and the text reflects that.

How the interpretations were written

Every card interpretation on this site was written for this site. The meanings draw on traditional tarot sources — the established upright and reversed readings that have accumulated around the Major Arcana — rather than being invented, but the wording, the position-specific readings, and the yes/no framing are original.

There are over 200 individual interpretation texts, plus a separate set for love readings, all translated into Spanish by hand rather than machine-translated. If you find something that reads as wrong, thin, or contradictory, tell us and it gets fixed.

Where we stand on tarot

This site treats tarot as a tool for reflection, not prediction. The cards do not know your future, and neither do we. What a spread is genuinely good at is giving you a structured, slightly unexpected prompt to think against — which is often enough to clarify a decision you had already half-made.

So you will not find claims here that a reading reveals what will happen. Every reading is labelled as entertainment, the language avoids false certainty, and nothing on this site should be used in place of advice from a doctor, lawyer, therapist, or financial professional.

Privacy by design

There is no server storing your readings. The app is a static site, your reading history lives in your own browser's local storage, and your questions are never transmitted anywhere. Clearing your browser data deletes everything.

It also works offline. Once you have loaded the site, it is cached on your device and you can get a reading with no connection at all.

Who runs it

Yes/No Tarot is an independent project, not a company, and is not affiliated with any tarot publisher, deck maker, or spiritual organisation. It is funded by advertising so that it can stay free to use.

Corrections, translation fixes, and bug reports are genuinely welcome at hello@yesnotarot.app.
